Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for California Medicaid, you must be a resident of the state of California, a U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income.
You must also be one of the following:*
- Pregnant
- Be responsible for a child 21 years of age or younger
- Blind
- Have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability
- Be 65 years of age or older
* ACA Medicaid expansion covers eligible low-income adults.

Copayments
For most individuals who enroll in Medi-Cal, there is no premium, no copayment, and no out-of-pocket cost.
For some Medi-Cal households, there is a monthly premium of $13 per child up to a family maximum of $39 per month.
